Expressions of Youth is a biennial competition for artists ages 11 to 19. In addition to competing for $1,000 in cash prizes, artists also get a chance to display their work in a professional setting for free.
Contestants may submit two pieces of work in any media. Entries will be displayed in the M. “Jack” Bell Hall (Mary H. Herron Community Conference Center), April 25th through May 7th. The contest will be judged by Dr. Glenny Beach, Professor of Art at Southeastern Oklahoma State University and will conclude an Awards Ceremony on Sunday, May 7th at 1:00 pm.
Contestants must submit their works between April 18th and April 21st. Submissions are divided into the following categories:
- Ages 11 – 15; two-dimensional work
- Ages 11 – 15; three-dimensional work
- Ages 16 – 19; two-dimensional work
- Ages 16 – 19; three-dimensional work
Please note that all two-dimensional art (paintings, drawings and so forth) must be framed and ready to hang. We suggest following this YouTube video if you wish to frame your artwork at home. Frame Destination, a framing shop in Dallas, Texas, also has an excellent guide to framing photos. Finally, Michael's and Hobby Lobby—both of which are in Texarkana—will frame paintings and photos for a fee.
Moreover, the Museum and the Art Club cannot be held responsible for any loss or damage to any work submitted for exhibition. By submitting their work, the artists, their families and any agent, completely hold harmless, the Museum, the Idabel Museum Society, The McCurtain County Art Club and the City of Idabel from any damage. If you’re interested in Expressions of Youth, please complete this form and return it with your submitted work.
