The Museum of the Red River to host a biennial competition for young artists ages 11 to 19

Idabel, OK (March 3, 2017)—The Museum’s biennial art competition for young artists, Expressions of Youth, will run from April 25th to May 7th. Artists will compete for $1,000 in cash prizes while displaying their work in a professional setting. In 2015, over 100 works of art were submitted and viewed by Museum guests. Christina Eastep, the Museum’s Curatorial Assistant, said “everyone was blown away by 2015’s entries…the community really enjoyed it.”

Entries will be displayed in the Mary H. Herron Community Conference Center and will be judged by Dr. Glenny Beach, Professor of Art at Southeastern Oklahoma State University. Dr. Beach, an experienced, commercially successful artist, has cultivated artistic talent with children of all ages throughout her career. She enjoys “the innovate and pure spirit expressed in the art of children and young people.”

Contestants may submit two pieces of art in person, with the proper paperwork, in any media between April 18th and April 21st.  Entries will be divided based on the type of art and the artist’s age. Participants will need to frame and mount their work appropriately. The required paperwork and more information about the contest, can be found online at www.motrr.org/art.
